Scuba diving in Key West's colorful, pristine reefs - 7 miles off shore - is an incredible adventure for your spirit. The living coral reef, caves and shipwrecks are brimming with diverse sea life, life such as rays, sharks, tropical fish, sponges, jellies, anemones, crabs, lobsters, sea turtles, sharks and more than 100 coral species. Dive under clear waters to a magical realm with corals, tropical fish, sea turtles, starfish, and rays, or float above the many shipwrecks that lie on the ocean floor. A wonderful place for scuba diving and snorkeling is the Key West Marine Park along the south side of the island. Sitting upright in 65 feet of water in the reef just beyond Key West, Joe's Tug is a unique setting for encounters with Goliath Grouper, barracuda, spotted morays, and horse eye jacks. Just off the Key West reef, Nine Foot Stake is a popular spot for night dives with smooth brain corals and nocturnal animals like hermit crab, brittle stars and anemones. Other scuba diving hotspots of Key West’s reef are Kedge Ledge, coral encrusted anchors from 18th-century sailing vessels, and Cayman Salvor, home of schools of silverslides, predatory bar jacks and jewfish.
